Why have a children's time in church?

God willing, we'll be in a new facility on Friday 1st February. That will enable us to have the whole church family together in the service.

Should we have a children's time in our church service? What would we do during that time? More importantly, what would be the purpose of that time?

Is the purpose for children to observe their parents in church?
Is the purpose for children to learn what happens in 'adult' church?
Is it to have a time of singing & Bible Story for children?
Is it so families can participate together?
Is it to fill in time for those running late?

What are your thoughts? Why would we have a children's time in church?

I have always thought it beneficial to have children in for the praise and worship session of the service.

I believe that all the reasons, except as a filler for those running late, helps in "training children in the way they should go". I don't think this time needs to include a Bible Story for the children because this is normally part of Friday School activities.

I think that we have proved by moving to a school, that it is not the building and the fabric that makes us a Church, its the people. In fact in the NT ( Greek )the word Church isn't actually used, Exclasia is used ( sorry about the spelling) This word means, in root form, "gathering, or congregation" - My point being that I am not the Church and the Children are not the church. WE are the Church. Everyone has a part to play... a body has many members....

I totally believe that the children should be in for part of the service, they are just as much a part of the Church as any adult is.

There should be a children's time in church. It's helps them to be a part of and not separate from the congregation, and to help integrate them into the church service when they are older. The activity for children's time should be instructional and interactive. In a previous church, the kids were given a topic, verse, story etc for the following week service to prepare for at which time the kids were able to interact.

I don't have children but I do love seeing children around; I enjoy very much the 'Children Talk' and feel blessed to have them around healthy, happy and even annoyed to be in such place because that means they'll never forget it and one day these seeds of memories will grow up in time to glorify our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ..

From Jonathan Payne: There were 4 comments already posted as I tried and I agree with all them. If the church is a family I see that having the family of believers together is important. I recognise that all age worship can be very difficult to plan for and to pitch it just right for everyone! With this in mind it all age worship could be incorporated occasionally, for example, once a month. From my experience in previous churches, all age worship can be really good services for people that are not used to coming to church.

I envisage a greater opportunity for expat families/people that are 'not yet christian' to access Awail church just because it's of our new location. Occasional all age worship may be a good chance to invite friends along...
